I captured these beautiful flowers at a dahlia flower farm in southeastern Sweden, a short distance along the coastal road between the village Kåseberga and the beach in Löderup. On a typical farmstead for the area known as Österlen, an enthusiastic woman named Ulrika Grönlund has started Sweden’s first dahlia farm. I admit that going into this project, I had no idea how diverse a species of dahlias were.

The rich variety of colors, shapes, and sizes and extensive blooming season, have brought forth dahlias their current popularity. Dahlias come in literally thousands of varieties, from as small as 5 to a whopping 30 centimeters in diameter. At the farm, I saw pink, purple, red, scarlet, orange, yellow, and white dahlias.

Here are some of the more common dahlia names: Decorative Dahlias, Pompon Dahlias, Ball Dahlias, Anemone Dahlias, Collarette Dahlias, Mignon Dahlias, Cactus Dahlias, Semi Cactus Dahlias.
